There have been 38 fewer deaths in the workplace in the previous 12 months according to the Health and Safety Executive (HSE).

The figure (111) is roughly 30 to 35 below what would have been expected based on the 5 year average but as the final two months of the period were far from normal they have warned against seeing this as a, somewhat dramatic, downward trend.

The figures do not include Coronavirus infection or occupational disease.

The most common causes of fatalities have not changed, they continue to be – First, falls from height, second, being struck by moving vehicles and third, being struck by a moving object.

These three causes account for 60% of fatal injuries.
